Road Race at McCoy Stadium on May 20
PAWTUCKET — In partnership with 21 Heroes, the Pawtucket Red Sox are hosting a “Veterans Home Run” 5K race-walk at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 20.
The race will begin and end at McCoy Stadium. A festival/picnic for participants will follow from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. This year's race features a revised route that takes participants into scenic downtown Pawtucket before returning to McCoy for a finish at home plate.
Proceeds from the race will benefit veterans’ organizations in the area, including Operation Stand Down RI, which helps homeless and in-need vets get housing and other services they need to improve their lives. 21 Heroes, a Pawtucket organization dedicated to the 21 former city residents who died in the Vietnam War, is partnering with the PawSox to recruit participants for the race. So far, approximately 75 citizens are running in memory of five of those 21 Heroes.
Registrants can sign up on-line at pawsox.com for $25. The cost drops to $20 for teams of 10 runners. The registration fee is $30 on the day of the race. Signups begin at 7:30 on May 20.
