Villa Novans put scare into Rams

WOONSOCKET — The Woonsocket softball team nearly pulled off the upset of the Division I season Wednesday afternoon.

The one-win Novans trailed reigning state finalist La Salle by a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Novans had the go-ahead run at second base with just one out. La Salle starter Ella Caviglio struck out the next two batters to help the Rams secure a 4-0 Division I victory.

Woonsocket (1-11 Division I) received a superb effort in the circle from junior Lundyn Forcier. Forcier allowed just seven hits and two earned runs while striking out four batters. She also led the way offensively with a pair of hits. Sophomore Maddie Hereth added a single and a double in the defeat.

The Novans finish off a hectic week with a trip to Slater Park’s Bailey Field to take on improving Tolman Thursday night.
