St. Raphael picks up non-league victory

CRANSTON — Sophomore Conor O’Brien pitched three innings of relief and delivered an RBI single to lead St. Raphael to a 7-6 non-league win over Cranston East, which currently sits in second place in Division I.

St. Raphael (7-7 Division II) received a pair of hits and runs from starting catcher Jackson Rush, while senior Tyler Andella and sophomore Bellamy Gutierrez added RBI singles.

Senior Elliot Vadnais scored the gamewinnin­g run in the top of the seventh when he walked, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.

The Saints host reigning Division II champion Ponaganset Monday at Vets Park. Sophomore Jack Lefort will earn the start on the mound. Field.

“He just kept us off balance and we couldn’t get the ball to the outfield,” Mount coach Paul Jacques said. “We had 12 groundball outs.”

Mount St. Charles (7-6 Division II) received a solid performanc­e on the mound from senior Joey Barter. The righty allowed three runs and seven hits in a complete-game effort. The Mounties are back in action Monday against city rival Woonsocket at Renaud Field.
