State Ballet opens season with ‘Coppelia’ Dec. 8, 9
CRANSTON — Artistic Director Herci Marsden and The State Ballet of Rhode Island Company open their 58th performing season with “Coppelia” on Dec. 8 and 9 at the Park Theatre.
SBRI’s founding prima ballerina Herci Marsden celebrates not only her company’s 58 years of classical ballet, but also her own contribution to the arts at the age of 80!
“Coppelia” is a witty and enchanting classic story ballet that is considered one of the ballet world’s greatest comedies. Set to the music of Leo Delibes, you enter the world of the feisty Swanhilda, the pompous Frantz, a mysterious toy maker with life-size dancing dolls, and a snowy wedding celebration that will be sure to dazzle all.
