Burrillville downs Block
BURRILLVILLE — Jocelyn Valliere scored a game-high 12 points and sophomore guard Alyssa Simpson added eight points to lead the Burrillville girls basketball team to a 38-17 Injury Fund victory over Block Island Thursday afternoon.
Burrillville (1-0) jumped out to a comfortable halftime lead thanks to transition offense, which could Sam Stanton said will be the key to the team’s success in Division III this season.
Block Island (17) received a teamhigh six points from Ruby Crawford and five more from Julia Gasner. The Hurricanes face another Blackstone Valley squad Saturday afternoon when North Smithfield heads to New Shoreham.
The Broncos will face a pair of difficult tests over the weekend in Ponaganset, starting with Saturday’s 1 p.m. contest against the Chieftains.
