Firefighter fatally stricken on duty

-

ATTLEBORO (AP) — A veteran Massachusetts firefighter has died after suffering an on-duty heart attack.

The Attleboro Fire Department says 63-year-old Thomas Cannon died Monday.

Chief Scott Lachance says Cannon was performing truck and equipment checks at the Twin Village Fire Station on Sunday when he collapsed and went into cardiac arrest.

His fellow firefighters revived him and transported him to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where he died. Cannon served the department for more than 30 years.

He leaves behind a wife and three sons.

Black flags are currently hanging over the truck bays at the station in honor of Cannon.

A wake will be held Friday in Attleboro, followed by a private funeral service.
