Novans shock Purple
PROVIDENCE — The Woonsocket boys volleyball team picked up the biggest victory of its inaugural season with 17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 1825, 15-9 victory Wednesday evening over a Classical team that reached the Division II semifinals last season.
Senior outside hitter Roger Bissonnette had a team-high 14 kills to go along with two aces and three digs, while fellow senior outside hitter Ibraim Santos-Hernandez had a team-high 10 digs along with seven kills, an ace and a block.
The Novans also received solid contributions from its middle hitters, as Henry Camacho (seven kills and a team-high six blocks) and Jacob Harris (three kills, three blocks, four digs and an ace) controlled the net.
“We didn’t give points away by making errors and we made them earn their points,” Woonsocket coach Ruth Plante said. “All the kids did a good job blocking, which forced them to tip. The kids just believed in themselves and showed mental toughness.”
Woonsocket (4-10) saw the combination of defensive specialists Steven Rogers and Juan Rosado produce 11 digs along with 19 serves without an error.
The Novans host Mt. Pleasant today at 4:30.
