WOONSOCKET — The Woonsocket vol­ley­ball team hung with vis­it­ing Mt. Pleas­ant in all three games of Thurs­day af­ter­noon’s Divi­sion II-North clash, but the Kil­ties se­cured a 25-20, 28-26, 25-21 vic­tory over the Villa No­vans.

Woonsocket (4-11 Divi­sion II-North) re­ceived a team-high seven kills from se­nior mid­dle hit­ter Henry Ca­ma­cho and se­nior out­side hit­ter Ibraim San­tos-Her­nan­dez. The Villa No­vans travel to Lin­coln Mid­dle School Mon­day to face the Lions.

MOUN­TIES SWEEP

WOONSOCKET — Even though the Mount St. Charles soft­ball team was down a cou­ple of starters, the Moun­ties still had no trou­ble sweep­ing aside vis­it­ing La Salle, 25-13, 25-18, 25-12, in a Divi­sion I con­test Thurs­day night.

The Moun­ties re­ceived 14 as­sists and five kills from All-State se­nior set­ter/right-side hit­ter Brett Gould, while se­nior out­side hit­ter Nate Asstafan also de­liv­ered a team-high eight kills and five digs. Coach Josh D’Abate was also quick to praise the play of Gary Kalmer and Joe Lynch, who stepped into start­ing spots for the first time this sea­son.

“We just wanted to see con­sis­tency,” said D’Abate, who team started a four-match home­s­tand with Thurs­day’s win. “We were short a cou­ple of starters tonight, so we wanted to see con­sis­tency out of the guys we put in the lineup.”

Mount St. Charles (11-1 Divi­sion I) hosts North Kingstown Wed­nes­day night be­fore Coventry comes to town Fri­day night for a first-place show­down.
