Joe Braganca tied the Darlington American Little League record for most home runs in one season and led the New York Lace Store to a 10-2 romp over Carter Rice. Braganca’s homer, his ninth of the campaign, ties the record held by Ted Dolan and Vic Ventura. Braganca spun a one-hitter, struck out 13, walked eight and added two singles to his three-run blast, while Larry Proulx and Mike Mulcahey chipped in with two hits apiece for NYLS.

1975

Steve Nazareth put down a perfect squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Dale O’Dell with the winning run as North Cumberland, for the second straight year, captured the state Middle School baseball crown with an exciting 4-3 win over Ferri of Johnston. Prior to their heroics in the bottom of the seventh, O’Dell and Nazareth combined on an excellent run-saving defensive play in the top of the frame. With runners on second and third and two outs, O’Dell dug out a ground ball at short and threw to first where Nazareth made a big stretch to get the runner at first to prevent Ferri from scoring.
