Vet­er­ans Day to be ob­served in city

WOONSOCKET – The city of Woonsocket will ob­serve the Vet­er­ans Day hol­i­day with an out­door salute at the United Vet­er­ans Coun­cil Armed Forces Park on Dav­i­son Street on Sun­day, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m..

“Please join me this Sun­day as we honor our vet­er­ans for their supreme sac­ri­fices they gave while pro­tect­ing our free­dom,” said Mayor Baldelli-Hunt.

Lo­cal elected of­fi­cials, vet­er­ans or­ga­ni­za­tions and honor guards from the Woonsocket Po­lice and Fire De­part­ments will par­tic­i­pate in this event. Park­ing for the event is avail­able in the lots ad­ja­cent to the en­trance of the Black­stone River Bike­way & Rivers Edge Sports Com­plex.

Im­me­di­ately fol­low­ing the ob­ser­vance at the UVC Park, the cer­e­mony will move to the Pri­vate An­drew F. Young Memo­rial Square lo­cated in Mar­ket Square at the in­ter­sec­tion of Main and Arnold Streets where the City will be un­veil one of eleven com­mem­o­ra­tive signs hon­or­ing our lo­cal World War I vet­er­ans. Dur­ing this event, the UVC will re­cite their names and an­nounce the ad­di­tional city­wide squares ded­i­cated to these res­i­dents.

In recog­ni­tion of Vet­er­ans Day, the Mu­seum of Work & Cul­ture, lo­cated at 42 South Main Street, will be open 1-5 p.m. Free ad­mis­sion will be of­fered to Vet­er­ans who wish to tour the Mu­seum.
