WOONSOCKET – It took a couple of years longer than expected, but the old Grand Trunk Railroad bridge abutment on Cass Avenue finally has a completed mural telling its historic story.

Retired Woonsocket High School art teacher Diane Mayers, her husband Kit, of Woonsocket, and a group of volunteer senior artists from Mayers’Artful Dodger ceramics and painting studio in Blackstone, were found on Cass Monday finishing up the project she started while still teaching at Woonsocket High School.

The work adorning the concrete face of the abutment tells of its connection to Charles M. Hayes, a railroad tycoon
