“Ethereal” has long had its place in haute couture, most typically in delicate, highly ornamented gowns. Designers tinkered with that construct for spring, showing gentle wonders in a range of silhouette­s. In the Armani Privé collection he called Nuages (Clouds), Giorgio Armani showed a series of little dresses in gentle pastels.

They glistened like the twilight sky. For more on the bright clouds of couture, and the final shows of the season,

Pale colors with gently shimmering effects clouded couture to lovely effect. Designers took a familiar idea — ethereal romance — in numerous directions, including one or two with just a soupçon of edge.
