Showing Off The Hardware

Emmy winners made the after-party rounds on Sunday night at the Governors Ball, the HBO party and the Fox party.

"I really can't believe it. I feel like the new girl at the party," said Rachel Brosnahan, gazing at the embarrassment of riches that surrounded her at the Governors Ball — a table full of Emmys awards, one for her Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actress in a Comedy, "The Marvelous

Mrs. Maisel," and a handful for the show's producers, who took home the gold for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Brosnahan and Co. didn't have to go very far with their hardware — the Governors Ball is the first stop after the actual awards telecast and is held in a gigantic permanent tent atop the parking structure next to the Microsoft Theater. It may sound unglamorous, but the surrounding skyscraper views are fantastic and the open-air party, under a canopy of blue LED lights, was certainly atmospheric. It's also practical — winner's pick up their actual statues (they're handed generic ones onstage) at the ball, then have them engraved with their names while they're enjoying dinner, and pick them up again in satin-lined black cases on the way out, just like ultra-heavy gift bags.

"The Crown" star Claire Foy didn't waste any time getting to the party with her Lead Actress in a Drama statuette and costar Matt Smith. Making the rounds were also Zac Posen and his date Joey King. In what has become a tradition of sorts, Posen accompanies a starlet to her first awards show, and designs a princess dress for her to wear for the special occasion. "Don't ever call me a walker," he said when teased about his talent for picking a great date every year. In addition to King, Posen dressed his "Project Runway" costar Heidi Klum. "I think she had her best red carpet ever," he said. "I'm sorry we couldn't take home the Emmy for our last season, but it's on to new projects." While he remained mum — saying "I've learned it's better to do it first, then talk about it later" — he did share that he flew out to Los Angeles with Marc Jacobs, and the two hashed it out over New York Fashion Week. "It was a crazy season," he said. "I'm kind of digging London now, but I want everyone at home to do good."

And although he was in party mode, Posen couldn't help his designer instincts. "I really want to take shears and cut off Joey's skirt right now," he said. "No! I'm loving this skirt," she interjected. "Well, it was really hard to pee in it, but I managed." The two still had to hit the HBO party, which is known for its dance floor. "Maybe the next time you see us, she'll be rocking the high-low look," said Posen with a wink.

“We were very surprised,” Emilia Clarke said over at the HBO party, of “Game of Thrones” winning Best Drama Series. “We were ready to leave the auditorium and then we won.”

As for how the “Game of Thrones” cast is feeling about the show's upcoming final season, Clarke said, “Everybody has done a lot of crying [while] filming the last season, so we're all feeling very bittersweet, existential crisis-y.” Clarke joked that the cast planned to cope with alcohol, then added, “It's going to be a long night.”

Other Emmy winners in attendance included Bill Hader, Henry Winkler, RuPaul, Regina King, John Oliver, and Thandie Newton as well as Dave Chappelle, Taraji P. Henson, Rumer Willis, Kathy Bates,

Issa Rae, Adina Porter, Ashley Tisdale, Derek Hough and Laurence Fishburne.

Amanda Crew was eager to hit the bar after sharing that the Emmy Awards features a cash bar. “It was $30 for one glass of Champagne,” she said. “I was shocked. I'm so cheap. I was like, ‘I'm not doing that.' But [my costar] Josh Brener bought me and Suzanne a glass, so it was $90 for three glasses of Champagne. Fun fact.”

“Westworld” star Angela Sarafyan was also thirsty, but for a different reason. “I'm not drinking water tonight,” she admitted. “Obviously, I can't sit on a toilet,” she added, referencing the train on her Christian Siriano dress. “It takes up a lot of space, but I was able to sit on one chair and put the train on three other seats. I was literally blocking the aisle. Totally worth it. I absolutely love this dress.” Sarafyan said “only a few people” stepped on her train. “One of them said, ‘Are you sure you're happy about the choice you made?'”

"Here we go," laughed Keri Russell as she and partner Matthew Rhys stepped off the dark sidewalk and onto the step-and-repeat over at Fox's post-Emmy bash at Vibiana. Rhys was carrying his Emmy award for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor in a Drama Series, for their show "The Americans." As the flashbulbs began to pop, the couple — who met on the set of the show and now have a child together — stuck close and smiled into each other's eyes.

Inside the old cathedral's cloistered garden, Ryan Murphy and Darren Criss were flanked by costars Édgar Ramírez and Penélope Cruz, who played Gianni and Donatella Versace, respectively. "Darren, can we get a photo with you?" asked one couple. He obliged, for the umpteenth time that evening, grinning ear to ear.
