Devan Chemicals Adds CBD to Textile Products
The company will debut its CBD-infused textiles at the Heimtextil trade show in Frankfurt.
Belgian specialty chemical firm Devan Chemicals said it has added cannabidiol, also known as CBD, to its health and wellness textiles solutions portfolio.
The company will showcase its new technology at the Heimtextil trade show in Frankfurt on Jan. 8 to 11.
Its “R-Vital” sleep-promoting range of micro-encapsulated active ingredients enhances textiles through antioxidative effects, the company said. Its “rich” CBD tincture, or extract, has a “balancing effect that helps facilitate a good night's sleep,” according to the firm.
The integration of CBD into textiles comes as no surprise, as the market for CBD continues to expand rapidly for beauty products and even beverages, among other categories. In fact, CBD will soon be a $22 billion industry, according to researchers at the Brightfield Group, adding that CBD will “profoundly” affect Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) and Pharma.
Extracted from hemp, a “nonpsychoactive” form of cannabis, the company “has applied its expertise to encapsulate active ingredients or extracts such as CBD and valerian root for use in its sleep-promoting R-Vital range of products. These can be applied to everything from bedding to sleepwear fabrics. When the skin touches the fabric, the resulting friction causes the capsules to break, releasing the ingredients to the body.” The firm added that it is ideal to transport said ingredients that add “comfort, care and well-being” to the body while sleeping.
And the company will also introduce argan oil to its health and wellness range, which includes pillow covers, bed sheets, cover sheets and sleepwear containing argan oil capsules, which the company says can help hydrate and nourish the hair and scalp.
In addition, it will introduce a Q10 (Ubiquinol), sea kelp and thyme oil blend for textiles that aids sports recovery, by “[reinforcing] the body's antioxidants, thereby disarming damaging free-radicals and having an overall antiaging effect.” The company collaborated with Kaneka Corp., a Japanese pharmaceutical company, to help develop the product.
