LONDON — Longtime Stella McCartney chief executive officer Frederick Lukoff is moving on, taking the top job at Scotch & Soda, the Amsterdam-based fashion retail brand with 250 standalone stores worldwide.

He will join the company on Sept. 1 and will replace Dirk-Jan Stoppelenburg, the current ceo who has been named chairman of the board of Scotch & Soda.

Lukoff joins from Stella McCartney, where he served as president and ceo for the past 10 years, building the business and brand recognition and supporting McCartney’s efforts in sustainable sourcing, manufacturing and distribution.

In fiscal 2017, McCartney saw revenues in the U.K. and royalties from licenses climb to 42.5 million pounds, while profits were 7.1 million pounds. On Lukoff’s watch, Stella McCartney was the first company in Kering’s stable to impose an environmental profit and loss audit, measuring the impact of its sourcing, manufacturing and distribution on the planet.

He also oversaw a string of international store openings and refurbishments, the launch of men’s wear and Stella McCartney Kids, among other initiatives.

A Dutch citizen, Lukoff said he planned to continue “the international success story” of Scotch & Soda. “I have a profound respect for Dutch culture, its approach to life and point of view on society. I believe there is space on the international fashion scene for that strong set of values to resonate even further.”

Stoppelenburg said Lukoff has demonstrated “a strong understanding of brands and creativity. I very much look forward to supporting him in the continuing journey of our great brand.”

Lukoff was named president and ceo of Stella McCartney in February 2009, and only recently left the brand. Stella McCartney is in the process of leaving the Kering stable and becoming an independent company, and the transition will be complete in the spring of 2020.

Prior to Stella McCartney, Lukoff had held senior roles at Lanvin, Paco Rabanne and Courreges. He started his career at Apple and Cisco Systems.

He was educated at UC Louvain, and has spent his entire professional career abroad. He will be moving from London to Amsterdam with his family.

Scotch & Soda has a canal-side design studio housed in a former church in the heart of Amsterdam. The brand has more than 250 stores and is sold through 8,000 doors. It sells men’s, women’s and children’s fashion with inspirations coming from vintage pieces and the worlds of art, history and design.

Last year, the brand signed a longterm licensing deal with HS Footwear GmbH, a subsidiary of Hamm Market Solutions GmbH & Co. KG in Osnabrück, Germany, for the international distribution of footwear.

The footwear launched for spring

2019. The company has also been expanding its presence in New York and the U.S. under U.S. ceo Ari Hoffman.
