WWD's first red carpet activation debuted Sunday night at the 2024 Golden Globes. Host Jeannie Mai was joined by Booth Moore, WWD's West Coast executive editor, and Alex Badia, WWD's style director, for WWD's Eye on the Red Carpet at the Golden Globes, where they broke down the evening's biggest fashion trends and chatted with stars in exclusive interviews.

Below, see highlights from WWD's red carpet coverage.

Michelle Yeoh

Michelle Yeoh put on a vibrant display in an orange Bottega Veneta gown with a strapless silhouette and structured bodice.

On the red carpet, Yeoh spoke with WWD about following her gut when it comes to fashion. “I've learned that when you put it on, if it's right, you will know it's right,” she explained.

Yeoh also discussed her personal connection to dressing. “[Fashion is a] part of you. It's an extension of how you feel, what you want to say,” she added. “I think it's also a respect to my fans, to my audience, because they want that — this is a glamorous side of it and why not have fun with it?”

Lily Gladstone

Lily Gladstone accessorized her strapless Valentino gown with beaded earrings that paid homage to her Blackfeet heritage: they were crafted by Lenise Omeasoo, a Blackfeet/Cree artist from Antelope Women Designs. Gladstone, who made history as the first Indigenous person to win a Golden Globe, spoke to WWD about the power of representation.

“It's important to be proud of what makes us different, what makes us unique," Gladstone said. "If we're really embracing an equal pluralistic society, it's because we feel confident in who we are, because we feel seen, because we feel represented. So when we have representation, it only goes to create a more just, more equitable society. Because there are lot of people who learn how to be by watching movies, TV and film. They accompany us through our whole lives, our favorite programs, and when we start seeing ourselves, we feel proud of who we are and then we're excited to learn about who other people are as well.”

Ayo Edebiri

Ahead of her Golden Globe win, Ayo Edebiri spoke with WWD about wearing a custom Thom Browne chef's jacket on “The Bear.” The actress has also favored his designs on the red carpet. “That actually just serendipitously happened,” Edebiri explained. “Chris [Storer] was talking to [Browne] and was thinking of him for that suit. Chris, who created the show, actually started out working in design. He worked at Ralph Lauren for a little bit. So he just is such a fashion freak, and when you watch the show, I feel like you can see that in all the menswear choices, too, but I got to wear Thom on the show, and I love wearing him not on the show when I get to be a little more dressed up.”

Matt Bomer

Wearing a Brioni suit, the star spoke about his groundbreaking show “Fellow Travelers” on Showtime, centered around the romance between two men who meet during the height of McCarthyism in the 1950s.

“The fact we were able to get this show made, that it's out in the world, that we're here tonight, I'm still pinching myself. I've been doing this almost 30 years — longer if you count being a background artist in a Chuck Norris movie when I was 12. I never thought I'd see the day where we got to see a multi-decade gay love story on-screen.”

Helen Mirren

Wearing a lavender gown and coat by

Dolce & Gabbana, Helen Mirren discussed her red carpet must-have — and revealed the surprising place where she used to shop.

"You need very high-heeled shoes," Mirren explained. "I used to go and buy my high-heeled shoes on Hollywood Boulevard in the stripper shops."

Christian Louboutin

The shoe designer known for his trademark red soles attended the Golden Globes in velvet loafers of his own making with flower embellishments.

“Sometimes I take leftover fabrics from other shoes and use them to make new shoes. These shoes I'm wearing are made from leftover fabric from the women's collection,” Louboutin said.

Christian Friedel

German actor Christian Friedel, wearing a gray Dolce & Gabbana suit, opened up about how difficult it was to film "Zone of Interest,” in which he plays Nazi commander Rudolf Hoss, who is trying to build a dream life for his family near the Auschwitz concentration camp.

"There was one scene [where I'm] throwing up, it's a battle of body against his mind. I was afraid of this scene because…my last time throwing up was 20 years ago," Friedel said.

Sheryl Lee Ralph

Sheryl Lee Ralph donned a black and yellow Safiyaa gown. The bespoke design featured puff sleeves and a dramatic bow that extended into a floor-length train. The "Abbott Elementary" star, who scored her first Golden Globe nomination in 2023, revealed her secret to looking radiant.

"It's good living," Ralph said. "I try to think the most positive, best thoughts through the good and the bad. So many of us want to lose our minds and get sad and depressed when things go bad, but no, appreciate it because when it gets good again, you'll appreciate it when it's good."

Fantasia Barrino

“The Color Purple” actress and singer, wearing Dolce & Gabbana gown, spoke about finding style and joy within. “I feel like fashion is almost like singing and doing movies. You submit yourself over to the artist to wear it and express yourself.”
