Unisex Denim

Telfar has introduced Telfar Denim, a modular denim system that's been in developmen­t for 20 years.

The launch represents Telfar's plan to re- center apparel on his own terms — no fashion schedule, no showroom system — and build wardrobes block by block. Before introducin­g his now famous bag,

Telfar started out in the early 2000s designing genderless clothes.

Telfar is a Black- owned genderless fashion project founded in 2004 by Telfar Clemens in New York City.

Over the past two years, the designer has used his own platform, TelfarTV — a public access channel that serves as a springboar­d for art, storytelli­ng and commerce — to fit the collection on hundreds of bodies. His aims has been to create a true unisex fit, and to secure the right manufactur­ing and materials so the line could remain affordable. The denim collection ranges from $ 110 to $ 240.

The offerings include the straight- leg jean with patent belt- loop stash pockets and three- panel segmentati­on, which trace the silhouette­s of its short short, capri and thigh- hole varieties. These are paired with cropped and full- length denim jackets with detachable sleeves, which saw their earliest iteration in Telfar's spring 2012 collection.

There is also a baggy jean that's tapered at the ankles with low back pockets that fall behind the thigh.

Telfar Denim is being sold at telfar.net. Other Telfar apparel offerings on the site include hoodies and sweats, as well as sweatsuits. In addition to Telfar's bags and accessorie­s (belts, headwear, jewelry, socks and wallets, boots, shoes and loafers), the brand has collaborat­ions with Melissa, Eastpak, Moose Knuckles and Ugg. — LISA LOCKWOOD

Kiko Milano is celebratin­g its recent backing from L Catterton by naming its first- ever global brand ambassador.

The Italian beauty brand has zeroed in on Emma Roberts to elevate its image and brand awareness worldwide.

The actress and producer will appear in a global campaign to be released soon, the company said in a statement Wednesday.

While details on the imagery are still under wraps, Roberts enthused about the partnershi­p and joining the company “in their journey to become the number- one Italian beauty brand in the world.”

“The way [ Kiko] thinks about beauty is truly inspiring and infinitely creative. They have more colors in one beauty ** store than I have ever seen. Not to mention their unique collaborat­ions and limited- edition collection­s,” said Roberts. “I love their mission of wanting to increase self- confidence through beauty. For me, that's the essence of true beauty. The joy that Kiko Milano brings with its products and services to its ever- growing and super- creative fan base is beautiful. Who wouldn't want to be a part of that?”

Kiko Milano's chief executive officer Simone Dominici said Roberts “embodies many values of our brand: she is incessantl­y creative and loves collaborat­ing with artistic minds” and pointed to how she “embraces the joy that experiment­ing with color, texture and art can bring.”

Roberts is known for her performanc­es spanning multiple genres of film and television. She gained particular recognitio­n for her starring roles in multiple seasons of Ryan Murphy's hit anthology horror series “American Horror Story,” starting from the 2013 iteration. She also starred in Murphy's short- lived series “Scream Queens,” which featured Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Her appointmen­t builds on Kiko Milano's increasing bond with the world of entertainm­ent. For one, last month the brand released the Kiko x Bridgerton limited- edition collection to celebrate the Netflix hit series and its third season, to be released starting

May 16. The eight- item makeup range included eye shadows in shimmering cream and stick formats, color palettes, liquid eyeliners, lipsticks and lip gloss, all coming in a green packaging with graphics nodding to the Regency era- inspired show.

Roberts' ambassador­ship also confirms the U. S. focus the brand is embracing in his quest for global expansion, which the L Catterton deal is set to accelerate.

Establishe­d in 1997 by entreprene­urs Antonio and Stefano Percassi, Kiko Milano generated sales of 798 million euros in 2023, up 19 percent versus the previous year and ranking 49th in WWD Beauty Inc's annual ranking of the world's largest beauty companies by sales. Last year, the company's sales in the Americas grew 43 percent versus 2022, while those in Asia and Europe were up 21.3 percent and 18.6 percent, respective­ly. The firm counts more than 1,100 stores globally and sells its products in more than 66 markets.

That was a fitting start, given the crowd and the fact that Loewe is a corporate sponsor of the Costume Institute's spring 2024 show, which features 220 items spanning from the 17th century to the present, and opens to the public Friday.

Organized as a series of shops- in- shop, The

Met Store's limited- run assortment for “Sleeping Beauties” includes designs from Loewe and decoupage specialist John Derian. Museum- goers will find a selection in three sections — the Loewe pop- up shop, the exclusive range of decoupage decor by

Derian, and a selection of postcards, prints and the hefty exhibition catalogue. Loewe fans can choose from bags, small leather goods, accessorie­s and candles along with other items from the luxury house's home scents collection. Derian has dreamt up trays, coasters, paperweigh­ts and other decorative gifts.

With Memorial Day and the summer approachin­g, the “Sleeping Beauties”inspired shop will feature items including the Loewe Font Tote, the Puzzle Fold Tote and Anagram Basket from the just- out 2024 Paula's Ibiza collection.

Playing into the nature theme that runs throughout “Sleeping Beauties,” as well as the Anderson- designed pieces that are on view, the shop stems from the concept of a Mediterran­ean garden. Think olive and lemon trees, lavender, rosemary and potted thyme. While Phillip Lim's “Algae Sequin” dress was made of biodegrada­ble rayon mesh derived from bamboo and seaweed and Conner Ives' “Couture Girl” dress required hand embroideri­ng 10,000plus paillettes made from recycled PET by the Sustainabl­e Sequin

Co., Anderson took the environmen­tal factor up to another level. One of the Grass- sprouting coats that he designed for Loewe is literally still growing in a glass case in the exhibition.

The pop- up shop design was inspired by the Loewe stores, and a Mediterran­ean-type environs complete with esparto, handmade ceramic tiles, wooden furniture, raffia flooring and colorful William Morris chairs including one with a neon orange trim.

New York City- based designer Derian did a heavy lift for The Met

Store, whipping up 100plus designs that spotlight works of art from the Met's collection­s of Drawings and Prints, European Sculpture and Decorative Arts and Islamic Art. The artist's finished products stayed true to the exhibition's undercurre­nts of nature, ephemerali­ty, fashion, rebirth and renewal. His creations, which include buttons, bottle openers, cake stands and other sundries retail from $ 12 to $ 2,000.

Visitors can also pick up an array of artistic keepsakes — postcards and prints that highlight pieces seen in “Sleeping Beauties.” Those who really want to take a deep dive afterward can purchase the exhibition's catalogue that was penned by the Costume Institute's curator in charge Andrew Bolton. Readers will also find missives by the creative consultant for “Sleeping Beauties” Nick Knight, the show's scent specialist Sissel Tolaas, Elizabeth Shaeffer, Margherita Barone, Linda Borsch, William DeGregorio, Stephanie Kramer and Dr. Junpeng Lai, among others.
