THE ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE: SUMMERSET
Prepare to explore the island home of the High Elves, in the next Elder Scrolls Online update
Dragon Knights, Sorcerers, Templars, and Nightblades rejoice, because The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset is landing in June, and it features a huge new area to explore. The update to the MMORPG will let players venture over to Summerset Isle, the home of the High Elves—an area that players haven’t seen since The Elder Scrolls:
Arena in the dark ages of 1994. Suffice to say, the world of Tamriel looks a lot better this time around.
The chapter will not only give players a new location to scout, it also brings a fresh skill line with new magical powers to master, an expanded crafting system, and a continuation of the flowing story of the game. In total this update offers around 30 hours of extra story content, and in it players will face the Daedric conspiracy, and fight to save Tamriel once again. Queen Ayrenn has opened Summerset to foreigners by royal decree, giving you the chance to see more of the tropical lagoons, cliffside vistas, and manicured cities that reflect the sophistication of High Elf society. In our jeans and t-shirt combo we should fit right in.
The update is designed for both new and existing players to be able to explore—Bethesda have promised level-appropriate content for all players, whether they’re new to the title or have been living their life as a Templar for the last few years. Existing players will be able to upgrade their purchase to include the new Chapter through the store, and there will also be a standalone retail and digital pack available containing the base game and this Chapter.
There’s more to explore, too. Players will be able to venture to island of Artaeum, home to the mysterious Psijic Order—a group of sages that existed long before the Mages Guild. When you reach the island, you’ll need to join these mysterious mages to gain access to their mystical powers, unlocking powerful new abilities that will help you save the world. Again. It’s becoming a habit, really, isn’t it?
As if new islands, new stories, and new abilities weren’t enough, you’ll now also be able to boost your abilities with one of the players’ most requested features—jewelry crafting. You’ll have the chance to forge potent new gear to bolster your power for your new adventures, using your experience and resources to gain an advantage on your latest quest. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a fetching pair of pearl earrings and a fancy brooch.
This update is the second annual ‘Chapter’ release—Bethesda announced last year that it would be releasing one major Chapter each year featuring new areas and other upgrades, as well as smaller, more standard DLC releases more regularly through the year. The Morrowind release in 2017 gained mostly positive reviews, and we’ll be going hands-on with Summerset in the next issue to see how it compares.

TESO: Summerset will be available on June 5 for Xbox One players.
