Garmin combines navigational capabilities with high-end horological design.
The Marq Captain smartwatch from Garmin aims to put luxury flourishes into the world of wearable technology.
Garmin says its marq Captain is the world’s first smartwatch with luxurious design, a nautical aesthetic and the latest GPS technology. ¶ Much like Garmin’s quatix smartwatches, which were introduced in 2013, Marq Captain watches help navigate using internal GPS antennas, or via wireless communication with a yacht’s Garmin multifunction displays to deliver networked instrumentation data directly to the watch’s user- customizable face. However, Marq
Captains deliver these features
in a more sophisticated package. ¶ According to Todd Register, Garmin’s creative leader, Garmin’s toughest challenge in creating the Marq Captain was learning to employ highend materials and finishes to create an elegant platform that supports its core GPS-based functions. ¶ “We had to locate partners around the world that could execute our vision,” Register says. “All parts of the watch work together to create a complex GPS antenna solution that simply looks like a beautiful, all-metal watch to the end user.”
