The SX112 takes the Sanlorenzo’s SX line into the mega-yacht sphere.

The Sanlorenzo SX112 is notable for its foldout side decks, ax-bow style, and open floor plan from the cockpit through the salon.

Taking in the profile of the Sanlorenzo SX112, it’s almost hard to focus on just one of the many elements working in concert to create this hybrid expedition-flybridge-motoryacht model. ¶ There is the ax-style bow, helping to split snotty seas and carry internal volume forward, resulting in space for a three-stateroom layout with a master and two VIPs, as well as a lower-deck lounge that converts to a fourth stateroom. There are quarters for five crew too. ¶ The SX112’s reverse-angled superstructure has an expedition look, seemingly leaning into the ocean, daring it to come forward. That superstructure has nearly 360 degrees of sole-to-ceiling glass, connecting guests inside to the sea from almost any location. The glass also visually lowers the yacht’s profile. Comparing the lengths of the superstructure and flybridge enclosure to each other, they are well-balanced and proportional, helping to accent the SX112’s linear, modern lines. ¶ Then there are the cut-down bulwarks amidships, letting guests at the formal dining table or having cocktails in the salon enjoy uninterrupted ocean views. Another benefit of all that glass is the volume of natural light passing through it, helping to make the main deck’s open floor plan—a trademark design feature in all the SX models, including the SX76 and SX88—feel even larger. ¶ The yacht’s single flybridge helm has windows that can be closed up for total climate control and when running in foul weather, or they can be lowered electrically to let in salt air and cool cross breezes. Outside, the flybridge’s aft deck has room for a pair of chaise-style lounge chairs. The aft deck extends over the main deck, protecting it from the elements where a set of lounge pads creates an alfresco space for sundowners with friends. Or, if preferred, the foredeck lounge is another option. The foredeck can also be shaded. ¶ Power for the SX112 is quad 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS1350 diesels. The builder says projected cruise speed is about 20 knots, and top speed is around 23 knots. The mega-yacht’s draft at half-load is 6 feet, a workable number for Bahamas cruising. ¶ The SX112’s styling is equal parts motoryacht and expedition craft. Sanlorenzo calls the model a crossover, which, if successful, could mean broad appeal for this series flagship.
