CIRCULAR HISTORY

-

On January 6, 2009, Jean Le Cam was racing MV Materiaux, his former IMOCA 60, in the Vendée Globe when the keel bulb fell off 200 nautical miles west of Cape Horn. MV Materiaux capsized, stranding Le Cam inside the boat. He was rescued 20 hours later by Vincent Riou—the skipper of an older-generation PRB. Unfortunately, PRB’s rigging was damaged during the rescue, and the boat dismasted 24 hours later. While Riou was awarded a third-place finish for his rescue efforts, it was only fitting that Le Cam rescued PRB’s new skipper some 12 years later.
