Horsey Heroes

Do you have a special horse that means a lot to you? Whether it be your own pony or a famous racehorse, we all have a horsey hero that inspires us.

LIZ: I got to watch Boyd Martin ride Tsetserleg at the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event this year and I completely fell in love! Also, Harry de Leyer’s Snowman. His story is a constant reminder that just because a horse cost a fortune doesn’t mean it’s better than a backyard rescue horse.

ANNA: My horsey hero is Secretariat. I’ve always loved him because he was a great racehorse. My horse, Harley, is one of my horsey heroes too. She is such a sweet, gentle mare. She’s the best!

MADDIE: I don’t really have a “famous” horse hero, but I do have a horse that was special to me. Eddie is a 30-year-old pony who I met at a Pony Club clinic with Daniel Stewart. It was my first time jumping!

LILA: My horsey heroes are Snowman and Secretariat. The traits I love in them both are the same—they both were born with amazing, out-of-this-world talent. Both also had amazing minds and wonderful relationships with their handlers.

HALLEY: Seabiscuit is my alltime horsey hero. He was small but mighty. He taught me to never give up!

ALYSSA: One of my favorite horse heroes is Poco Lena. She was an outstanding cutting mare in the 1950s and 1960s. She came from a long line of well-known cutting horses and is in the NCHA Hall of Fame.

PRESLEE: First, Secretariat, because he is the greatest race horse of all time and I love his story! My horse, Mya, is my other horsey hero. She was skin and bones when we got her, and we have worked very hard and now she is a beautiful show horse and my best friend.
