Balancing Riding and School
As you head back to school, it’s exciting to see all your classmates again and learn about your favorite subjects (besides horses, that is!), but school sometimes means less time to ride. We asked the Young Rider Advisory Board how they work horses into their busy schedules.
Preslee
School always comes first so I do my homework right after school. My parents have always said that I can’t ride horses unless my grades are up, so I work hard during the school year!
Anna
Personally, I don’t have that much trouble balancing school and horses. My school lets out at 3:00, so I have plenty of time to get ready for the barn and ride!
Halley
I am fortunate to be homeschooled, so I find plenty of time for lessons and riding!
Lila
During the school year, school work always comes first. If I don’t do my homework or get a bad grade, I don’t get to ride, so I’m very motivated to do well in school. I usually do my homework in the car on the way to the barn and then get the rest done as soon as I’m home. I have to stay up late sometimes to get it all done, but it’s worth it.
Annika
Balancing school and riding can be tough sometimes. I ride three times a week, so I always get to see the horses on those days. On the days I don’t ride, I devote my time to things outside of horses. If I find I have less to do on a non-riding day, I make my way out to the barn and give my horses some love.
Maddie
Since I’m only going into 5th grade, I don’t have that much homework. Most of my homework is on the computer so I can do it a lot quicker than on paper. If I know I have a lot of homework that could interfere with my barn time, I try to do it at recess or right after school.
ALYSSA
Up until this year I have been homeschooled, so I could ride Sugar whenever I wanted during the day. This year it will be a little different. I’m going to traditional high school! My plan is to find time to ride her after school sometimes, and for sure on the weekends.
