Border Patrol arrests 1 in immigrant smuggling case
Agents on duty in Dome Valley arrested a U.S. citizen Thursday for allegedly transporting three undocumented migrants in an apparent effort to avoid the Interstate 8 checkpoint, according to a news release by U.S. Border Patrol Yuma Sector.
Yuma Sector said that an investigation into the incident revealed that the driver originally picked up three Mexican nationals in California after they had illegally crossed into the U.S.
The Mexican nationals admitted to crossing the border without authorization, according to Yuma Sector Public Affairs.
Yuma Sector Border Patrol said that the driver was arrested and charged with alien smuggling. The California-registered car was also seized.
All passengers will be processed per Yuma Sector guidelines, said Yuma Sector Border Patrol.
