Yuma Sun

First Take

- By Grady Garrett, sports editor

Last night marked the conclusion of the Arizona Strikers’ home slate of games in 2015.

The Strikers, whose home was Sedona last year, are in their inaugural season in Yuma.

Through the first eight games of the season, the Strikers have been outscored 56-5.

If there are to be more years in Yuma, and if the team’s organizers hope to put people in the stands and grow the popularity of the team, they must find a way to be more competitive going forward.

The pro-am league the Strikers play in, the W-League, is full of players from all over the country — many of whom are current or former Division I players.

The Strikers simply lack players with that pedigree, which — for those who just want to see a good game — makes their contests difficult to watch.

I’ll be interested to see what they can do going forward to improve the product.
