Strikers beat Storm for first victory of the season

Arizona Strikers FC made the most of the final league home game of the 2015 season.

In their inaugural season in Yuma, the Strikers lost their first eight matches. But Friday night, they controlled possession most of the night in a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Storm.

girls experience­d playing away from home. It’s been a very difficult season, but slowly, the girls were building a core and I just hope we can build off this.”

Arizona (1-8-0) got its first goal in the 35th minute, when Olivia Jimenez bent a shot into the top-right corner of the net. Colorado (1-7-0) keeper Katie Ruff got a hand on the ball, but the strike was too strong, and the ball ricocheted into the net.

The second goal came early in the second half. It was another firecracke­r from long range; Kitzel Cota blasted the ball past Ruff to put the Strikers up 2-0.
