Every Wednesday at 2 p.m., the multi-purpose room at Foothills Library is filled with yarn. Not to the brim, but with dresses, socks, hats, anything that can be crocheted or knitted by members of the group Yarn Over Yuma, which congregates there to enjoy their craft in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere that includes catching up on the latest news, exchanging tips, offering advice and instruction, looking over new patterns, talking about where to get great deals on yarn, and making one another laugh. Those in the room range from the novice, like 17-year-old Caster Walker, to those who have been working with yarn since before Walker was born. Walker said he started coming to the meetings because he wanted to learn how to knit. And he certainly came to the right place. The “expert,” agreed those in attendance on Wednesday, is Mike Rosenburg, who was once featured in a Yuma Sun story about her making her own yarn. Then there is Arlene Nordin, who said she is hooked on the hobby, so much so, “I plan to die with a (knitting) hook in my hand,” she said with a laugh. In the summer months the group sees 15 members attend, on the average,

but the number has grown to as many as 45 in the winter months.
