Big Curve area

Reconstruc­tion of Southgate Mall property will lead to a number of lane closures and detours in Big Curve/Southgate Mall area over the next four months. Southbound 4th Avenue’s right lane will close from Catalina Drive to 4th Avenue Extension. Then 4th Avenue Extension will be closed between Business Loop 8/4th Avenue and 32nd Street. At one point in the project, the 32nd Street intersecti­on with 4th Avenue Extension will become a 4-way stop. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and to watch for and follow detour signs posted in the project vicinity.

Avenue B at 8th Street

A private project to install utility connection­s and patch roadways for the incoming Walmart Neighborho­od Market will require lane closures in the area of 8th Street and Avenue B. One phase will reduce Avenue B to one lane of traffic in each direction through the 8th Street intersecti­on. Another phase will reduce 8th Street to one lane in each direction just west of Avenue B. Motorists are advised to observe traffic control devices and reduced speed limits. Alternate routes are encouraged. The overall project could take up to two months.

24th Street, Avenues C to D

A private project to install a new lift station lateral for the Park West subdivisio­n near the vicinity of 24th Street and approximat­ely 45th Avenue will require the closure of 24th Street in that immediate vicinity. Through-traffic detour is 32nd Street. Signs will be posted to alert drivers of the roadwork, and additional signage alerting drivers to the road closure will be posted near the intersecti­on of 24th Street and Avenue C. Reconstruc­tion of 24th Street will take place between Avenue C to the Avenue C-1/2 alignment. 24th Street will be closed between Avenue C and 42nd Drive. Neighborho­od traffic can exit the subdivisio­n using 45th Way and taking 24th Street west to Avenue D. 24th Street is slated to open to traffic at the end of August.

Avenue 3E, 32nd Street

Crews will be doing maintenanc­e work on a valve located on the northeast side of the intersecti­on at Avenue 3E and 32nd Street, requiring a reduced speed limit near the work zone. The project is slated to be completed by mid-September.

4th Avenue at 16th Street

Century Link will be working on a project near the 4th Avenue and 16th Street intersecti­on that will require crews to place a manhole, trench and conduit cable near the area. The project will take a total of five days and is slated to be completed by late August. It will require a sidewalk closure along 16th Street, near the southeast corner of the intersecti­on. Signs will be posted to alert traffic of the roadwork ahead.

Avenue A, 24th Street

An in-process project to widen Avenue A at 24th Street will reduce Avenue A to one lane in each direction south of 24th, with a reduced speed limit in place. The project includes the installati­on and repaving of a new right-turn lane. Work is slated to be completed in mid-August.

Madison Avenue, north end

Current access to parking behind the Yuma Art Center and 224 Main shops is from the north driveway of the lot onto Madison, just south of 2nd Street. Access to businesses on the 200 block of Madison may also use the upper Garden Cafe parking area at 1st Avenue and Court Street, then take the Garden Cafe walkway down. Concurrent­ly, Madison is closed from Giss Parkway to 5th Street. This 120-day overall project also includes the repaving of the intersecti­on of Avenue A and 4th Street, 3rd Street from Madison Avenue to Main Street, and Madison Avenue from Giss Parkway to 5th Street.

16th Street, I-8 to Sunridge

Southwest Gas has a 5-day gas line replacemen­t project that could take place within the next two months. Eastbound 16th Street’s right lane will be closed from just east of the eastbound off-ramp from Interstate 8 to Sunridge Drive.

16th Street, 7th Avenue

Storm water improvemen­ts associated with new parking lot constructi­on will cause the right eastbound lane of 16th Street to be closed from 8th Avenue to 7th Avenue. This project will require a sidewalk closure along 16th Street. Signs will be posted in the area to alert drivers to the reduced speed limit. Work is slated to be completed by Aug. 20.

City street maintenanc­e

will Asphalt conduct maintenanc­e operations Monday crews through Friday at the following locations:

• 45th Avenue from 16th Street to 20th Street (crack seal)

• Rancho Verde subdivisio­n (near 32nd Street and Avenue C) (crack seal)

• 20th Street from 45th Avenue to 48th Way (crack seal)

• El Pueblo-cito subdivisio­n (south of 16th Street near E. Main Canal) (grinding)

• 16th Street from Avenue B to Avenue C (grinding)

Be advised that lane restrictio­ns, detours and road closures may be in effect during these projects.
