Fire House Facts
For the week of Sept. 18-24, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 247 emergency calls, including:
• 12 general fire response
Including: A house fire, a trailer fire, an illegal back yard fire (20 foot flames), an explosion and fire at a Main Street business, and various alarms.
• 18 motor vehicle crashes
Including: 4 involving 3 vehicles, 1 involving a building, 1 involving a wall, and 1 rollover.
• 196 other medical emergencies (serious to minor)
Including: 13 difficulty breathing, 22 chest pain, 22 fall victims, 7 unconscious people, 10 seizure cases, 3 possible stroke cases, 1 intoxicated person, 2 people under the influence of drugs, 4 drug overdose cases, 14 people with psychiatric problems, 1 heat illness, 5 medical alarms, 2 allergic reactions, 2 choking, 15 altered or decreased level of consciousness, 2 fevers, 8 diabetic emergencies, 6 “man down” calls, 1 uncontrolled bleeding, 1 bad headache, 1 poisoning (1-year-old drank unknown substance), 6 assaults, 9 abdominal pain, and other illnesses and injuries.
• 21 special duty, public assistance, and residential assignments
Including: 2 snake removals, 2 vehicle fires, 1 cooking fire, 3 illegal burning, 2 power lines arcing, 1 fire in a planter box, 1 hay bale on fire, and various alarms.
