key goal-scorers are.”

The Matadors have six regular-season games remaining, and are currently all but assured of qualifying for the six-team ACCAC playoffs. They’re one of four teams battling for the No. 2 seed behind Paradise Valley (13-0), but playoff positioning is something Poon said she’s trying not to pay too much attention to yet.

“The postseason is still a long ways away,” Poon said. “My goal is just to have us play the best soccer that we can play.” when to be there and what to do when he gets there. He’s not the strongest guy in the world, he’s not the fastest guy in the world, but he’s smart. He uses tactics to his advantage.”

Garcia also put in the team’s second and fourth goals, on assists from Christian Villegas and Cesar Moreno, respectively.

Even though the Matadors scored seven goals in the contest, it took until the 27th minute to strike first. Archibaldo Gurrola, a freshman who played at San Luis, scored on a nice shot from the side of the net.

AWC went into halftime up, 2-0. The five second-half goals came from Moreno, Beto Garcia, George Sanchez and the two from Gio Garcia.

Dale was satisfied with the result, the ball movement and the headers from the back line, was still left wanting more from his players.

“We need to have better focus and better precision,” he said. “One of the things we ask our players is to know their role and perform their function, but if you get ahead by three goals, it’s more important, not less important.

“They lose tactical discipline if they think we’re going to win. Against the better teams, you’ll fail. Part of it is the age; these guys are very young, very inconsistent and they’re not professionals, and it shows. They need to still emulate professional players.”

It was the third match this week for AWC, and some injury concerns and fatigue have started to add up. Given the nature of the blowout win, Dale was glad to be able to utilize the depth on the roster in Saturday’s game against South Mountain.

The Matadors are off until Thursday when they travel to GateWay.
