Gila Ridge boys soccer shuts out Casa Grande

Wellard leads Hawks girls to 6-1 victory

The Gila Ridge boys soccer team bounced back from last week’s 0-11 showing with a 4-0 victory over Casa Grande at home on Monday.

Esteban Franco scored twice for the Hawks, who led 2-0 at halftime, while Arturo Ledezma and Yoseph Luque had one goal apiece.

Gila Ridge (2-1-1 AIA), which in Casa Grande (1-4) was facing its second fellow 4A opponent of the season, was coming off a 2-2 tie with Cibola last Friday and a 2-1 loss to Kofa last Tuesday.

The Hawks’ next regular-season game won’t come until Jan. 3 vs. Kofa. Before that, they’ll play the Arizona Soccer Showcase, which begins Dec. 27.

Kacey Wellard netted a hat trick for the Hawks (12-1 AIA), while Kylee House, Clara Haynes and Shaina Cortez scored once each.

Paris Montague (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Alyssa Menta (13 points, 5 rebounds) led the way for the Warriors (4-1 AIA), who took control from the start by jumping out to a 32-12 halftime advantage.

PREP WRESTLING

The Yuma Catholic wrestling team went 3-1 this past weekend in Parker, beating River Valley (6024), Lake Havasu (41-34), Deer Valley (41-36), and losing to Ironwood (47-22). Four Shamrocks went undefeated: Miguel Loya (106 pounds), Dawson Peterson (132), Richard Molina (170) and Sam Cheung (182).
