Local glance: Kofa softball beats Yuma High, 21-0, in opener

Sam Morales earned the season-opening, 21-0 win for the Kings against Yuma High on Wednesday, striking out 10 batters and allowing just four hits in five innings of work. Offensivel­y, Nyzle Salazar had three hits and three RBIs, Alyssa Sergent had three hits and two RBIs, Vivian Guevara had two hits and two RBIs and Morales had two doubles and two RBIs.

PREP BASEBALL Antelope 13, Salome 9

The Rams trailed early in their season-opener, but came back in the sixth to take the lead and hold onto it in their 13-9 win Wednesday at Salome.

Brody Harris was 2-for3 with an RBI and picked up the save on the mound. Manuel Gutierrez was the winning pitcher.

Brandon Jaime was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI, and Dustyn Ricker was 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

JUCO MEN’S BASKETBALL AWC 87, Scottsdale 83

The Matadors held onto their edge after seeing it fall from double-digits to one point in Wednesday’s 87-83 win against Scottsdale.

Lamont Traylor led AWC (22-6 overall, 15-5 ACCAC) with 19 points, and Andre Jones added 17.

JUCO WOMEN’S BASKETBALL AWC 66, Scottsdale 58

A 9-0 run in the third quarter allowed the Matadors (21-7 overall, 16-4 ACCAC) to pull ahead in their 66-58 win Wednesday at Scottsdale.

Krisynthia Sampson was the leading scorer with 15 points.
