Pen-pricks

• President Trump said he will roll out his Obamacare repeal plan and his tax cuts in March. The president’s own daily health plan includes KFC, French fries and shakes. Trumpcare could save Social Security from bankruptcy when nobody lives to be 65.

• The Academy Awards Show director said he will not discourage Oscar winners from making controversial political comments in their speeches. The entertainment industry’s anger over losing the election is palpable. Hollywood celebrated Presidents Day by pretending we don’t have one.

• CNN reports the average age of a House member in this Congress is 50 and the average age of a U.S. Senator is 61. It’s the oldest Congress in history. Term limits will never pass because they all live in top-notch nursing homes in Washington and none of them want to lose their insurance.

Yuma “rocks” for supporting the dreams of our youth!

Greater Foothills Helping Hands is preparing to say “goodbye” to its long-time Executive Director Judy

I would like to give a shout-out to the employees and management of Discount Tire on 32nd Street for supporting our local veterans. I am a volunteer driver for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). A DAV van transports local veterans from the Yuma area to the VA Hospital in Tucson for medical appointments on most week-days. It is a 500-mile daily round trip with the van leaving the American Legion Hall in downtown Yuma shortly after 4 a.m. and getting back to Yuma in the late afternoon.

During a recent trip I noticed the van had developed a vibration at certain highway speeds. Concerned it was a tire problem, I stopped by Discount Tire for an evaluation after my daily run. They balanced and rotated the tires. When it came time to settle up, Hector Mejia told me there would be “No charge. We like to help support our Veterans.”

Thanks to Hector and the others at Discount Tire for helping us get our Vets to and from their medical appointments safely.
