Pair of Kings Doubles Tournament results

The first-ever Pair of Kings Doubles high school tournament, put on by Kofa, was held Saturday.

In the girls tournament, Gila Ridge’s Megan Cordery and Jessica Roth won the A division (6-1, 6-3 Cibola’s Daisy Milan and Abigail Kern in the final), Gila Ridge’s Nina Hook and Allison Taylor won the B division (4-6, 6-1, 6-3 over Kofa’s Maesy and Kelsey Ramirez in the final) and Gila Ridge’s Farah Gana and Karen Price won the C division (6-4, 3-6, 6-4 over Cibola’s Sarah Trujillo and Aileen Zavala in the final).

Boys-wise, Cibola’s Beau Boyer/ Johnny Durazo won the A division (6-1, 6-4 in the final), San Luis beat Kofa in the B division finals and Queen Creek beat Cibola in the C division finals.

Gastelum wins UFC fight

Yuma native Kelvin Gastelum defeated Vitor Belfort via TKO 3:52 into the first round late Saturday night. Gastelum, a Cibola alum, improved to 9-2 in UFC fights with the victory.

Yuma Catholic baseball beats Blue Ridge

Jack Curtis (2-for-4, double, 2 RBIs), Eddie Morales (1-for-3, double, 2 RBIs) and Daniel Miranda (2for-4, double, RBI) led the Shamrocks in their 12-1 victory Saturday against Blue Ridge.

AWC baseball gets 2 wins

The Matadors won two one-run games Saturday against GateWay in a doublehead­er, with 2-1 and 6-5 victories.

AWC scored in the 10th inning of game one on a passed ball to get the win. The Matadors nearly lost a six-run lead in game two, but held on to complete the sweep.

Irving Martin had nine strikeouts over seven innings in game one. Eric Ligda picked up the win with three scoreless frames. Snaider Torrealba was 3-for-3 in game two.
