Woman who ran from police is sentenced
The woman who fled from San Luis police and ran into a nearby home, where she and a male co-defendant locked themselves inside and refused to come out, avoided any time behind bars when she was sentenced in Yuma County Superior Court Thursday morning.
Appearing before Superior Court Judge Roger Nelson, Isabela Delgado was sentenced to 36 months of supervised probation for criminal trespass.
As a condition of her probation, Nelson also ordered that Delgado, who was represented by attorney Julie McDonald, successfully complete 60 hours of drug treatment.
Delgado pleaded guilty to the offense in a plea bargain with prosecutors. In return, her guilty plea charg- es of failure to stop for a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and second degree burglary were dismissed.
According to San Luis police, the incident happened in October 2016 when an officer spotted the 26-year-old Isabela Delgado and a male companion walking in the 1200 Block of Babbitt Lane and attempted to make contact with them.
Delgado and her male companion, later identified as 22-year-old Angel Preciado, who was not armed, immediately fled and tried to hide from officers by running into a nearby home, where they locked themselves inside.
San Luis police said that three ju- veniles had been inside the home at the time and that one of them told Preciado and Delgado to leave the residence. The three juveniles did not know either of the suspects.
After about 30 minutes of being inside the residence, Preciado and Delgado eventually came out and surrendered to officers.
Preciado was booked into the Yuma County jail for possession of drug paraphernalia, three counts of endangerment, second degree burglary, criminal trespassing and unlawful imprisonment.
Delgado, who also had warrants out for her arrest for failure to stop for a police officer and possession of drug paraphernalia, was booked for criminal trespassing and second degree burglary.
