Lynn Wojcik
Lynn Wojcik, a retired city of Yuma firefighter, was recently part of the Oklahoma State University 2017 honorees as an author, held at the OSU Edmon Low Library in Stillwater, Okla.
Wojcik served as the contract writer on the Fire and Emergency Services Safety Officer (2nd edition) book from the International Fire Service Training Association. She has also served on two other IFSTA manuals as a validation committee member. The Chief Officer (3rd edition) and the Fire and Emergency Services instructor that is in production. After retiring from YFD, Wojcik received the bachelor of technology in Emergency Responder Administration degree program at OSU, Oklahoma City and is the department head of public safety.
Under her leadership, the Emergency Responder Administration program achieved program accreditation from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress and is only one of 10 bachelor degree programs in the world having this prestigious distinction.
She is continuing her doctoral studies at OSU in Fire and Emergency Management Administration program and is in the process of preparing for a defense of her dissertation proposal.
Anthony Avelar
U.S. Air Force airman Anthony Avelar has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Avelar, the son of James and Virginia Avelar, of Yuma, is a 2016 graduate of Cibola High School.
Roberto Duenas
U.S. Air Force Air National Guard airman 1st class Roberto Duenas has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Duenas, the son of Ramon and Francisca Duenas, husband of Sabrina Duenas and father of Isaac, Darcy and Sofia, all of Somerton, is a 2001 graduate of Cibola High School.
