Good/bad news mix: Businesses moving, closing; new eatery
This week I have a mix of good news and bad news. I’ll start with the good news ... I received confirmation that Burger King has selected a site in Somerton — the northeast corner of Main Street and Bingham Avenue. Currently the city is reviewing the preliminary plans for construction of the building, but the architects are working on some revisions, explained Hector Tapia, the city’s economic development director.
In a recent column, I shared the owners’ plans to completely overhaul the three restaurants currently open and to build two new restaurants in Yuma County. Strevel admitted that with all the graduations, “it’s a crazy time to move.” The East 18th Place location, which opens today, is considered more centrally located.
Jeanie Pace recently went to the Yuma Planning and Zoning Commission to ask for a conditional use permit to allow a retail use in the Light Industrial District, the zoning for East 18th Place. The commission approved the request on April 10.
Jeanie’s Party and Costumes offers custom balloon bouquets, arches, columns, holiday and seasonal supplies, costumes and accessories as well as cake decorating and baking supplies.
