Appreciative Advising workshop
Dr. Jennifer Bloom, the creator of Appreciative Advising, will present a threehour training workshop to a joint group of advisors from Arizona Western College and Northern Arizona University-Yuma from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday in the Francis Morris board room on the Yuma Campus.
This hands-on workshop will focus on providing participants with an overview of this movement within the academic advising community called Appreciative Advising. The presentation is based on the book, The Appreciative Advising Revolution, which the presenter co-authored with Dr. Bryant Hutson and Dr. Ye He from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The terms academic advising and appreciative advising will be defined and the important role that advising plays in student success. The six phases of appreciative advising are disarm, discover, dream, design, deliver, and don’t settle. Participants will not only learn what each phase means, but they will also have the opportunity to learn specific techniques for implementing each of these phases.
This training is sponsored by Partners Advancing Completion through Transfer Opportunities (PACTO), which is a collaboration between AWC and NAU-Yuma to create a seamless transfer pathway and improve academic success at both institutions.
