For the week of Aug. 27 through Sept. 2, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 311 emergency calls for service, including: • 12 general fire response Including: A natural gas smell in a house, an oven fire, smoke in a restaurant from a burner left on, a smoking air conditioni­ng unit, an illegal trash burn in a back yard, a propane tank on fire, a wood fence on fire caused by resident burning grass, a roof lifted off a manufactur­ed home by storm winds, and various alarms. • 1 mutual aid Including: Called to assist Rural/Metro with an emergency medical call in the county.

• 25 motor vehicle crashes

Including: 1 involving a pedestrian, 1 involving a fence, 1 involving a pole, 1 involving a palm tree, and 2 involving fire hydrants.

• 248 other medical emergencie­s (serious to minor)

Including: 27 difficulty breathing, 14 chest pain, 25 falls, 18 unconsciou­s people, 10 seizure cases, 8 possible stroke cases, 6 intoxicate­d persons, 4 people under the influence of drugs, 1 drug overdose, 9 people with psychiatri­c problems, 6 heat illness/ dehydratio­n, 7 medical alarms, 2 children locked in vehicles, 2 allergic reactions, 3 choking, 10 altered or decreased level of consciousn­ess, 3 broken bones, 3 diabetic emergencie­s, 1 dog bite, 1 unknown bite, 1 bee sting, 10 man down calls, 2 uncontroll­ed bleeding, 4 bad headaches, 1 stabbing, 1 gunshot wound, 6 assaults, 5 back pain, 15 abdominal pain, 5 pregnancy related, 1 deceased person, 3 laceration­s, 1 sports related injury, and other illnesses and injuries.

Including: 6 arcing or down power lines, 1 illegal trash burning, 2 vehicle fires, 1 person stuck in an elevator, 2 damaged poles, 1 assisting the police department with a bio-hazard clean-up at a crime scene, and various alarms.
