Gila Ridge golf teams win

David Ramirez (1-over 37) was the medalist again for the Gila Ridge boys golf team, and Ethan Upayokin (2-over 38) was right behind him. The Hawks won with a team score of 163 at Las Barrancas Golf Course on Wednesday. Kofa (224) came in second, and Yuma High (249) placed third.

In the girls match, the Hawks led the way with 184, besting Kofa’s 243. Kylee Gerber (5-over 41) led all individual­s, and Caitlin Grant (8over 44) and Daekyn Brown (13over 49) fared well on the course for Gila Ridge.

AWC volleyball loses at EAC

The Matadors dropped to 11-8 overall and 3-4 in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference on Wednesday with a loss in Thatcher against Eastern Arizona. They lost in four sets — 17-25, 25-23, 16-25, 24-26.

Kiara Erving (nine kills, three blocks), Mafe Sandoval (eight kills, eight digs), Neyshlian Roman Concepcion (20 digs) and Teuila Lolotai (24 assists, nine digs) led AWC, statistica­lly.

Blues beat Penguins in OT

PITTSBURGH — Alex Pietrangel­o beat Matt Murray 1:15 into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night in the season opener for both teams.

The Blues recovered after letting a two-goal, third-period lead slip away when Pietrangel­o’s shot from the slot hit Murray and slipped under the crossbar for his second goal of the game.
