An Impaired Driving Enforcement Detail operated by Yuma police over the Halloween holiday resulted in six arrests for driving under the influence (DUI).

Of those DUI arrests, one was for an extreme DUI, one was for DUI drugs, while the remaining four were for misdemeanor DUI.

In all, 107 traffic stops were made during the detail, including one which resulted in an arrest.

The detail ran from Saturday, Oct. 28, through Tuesday, Oct. 31, and used an additional nine officers who were aggressively looking to stop and arrest drivers who were impaired by alcohol or drugs.

The officers involved in the detail were in addition to regularly scheduled patrol officers.

In addition to getting impaired drivers off the street, Yuma police officers were also actively enforcing traffic laws and raising public awareness about the dangers of impaired driving in an effort to save more lives on our roadways.

During the detail, officers also issued 45 speeding tickets, including one for criminal speeding and issued 40 other citations for violations other than speeding.

Officers also encountered 14 sober drivers and issued three child safety seat violations. The average blood alcohol content (BAC) recorded during this holiday’s detail was 0.147.

Money to pay for the additional officers was provided by a grant from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, which focuses on the apprehension of drunk drivers.
