This week’s Project Drive Safe, the Yuma Police Department’s ongoing traffic safety program, will be conducted on 21st Drive, as well as one other undisclosed location.

Officers will be looking specifically for motorists who are speeding, using their cellphones, making improper turns and those running red lights. The operation will begin on Nov. 6 and last through Nov. 12.

These infractions are the most common traffic violations citations are given for, according to the Yuma Police Department.

As of Oct. 29, officers have issued 650 citations during this enhanced zero-tolerance traffic enforcement operation.

Safe Driving Tip: Take steps for pedestrian safety

Whenever you are walking, keep these tips in mind:

1. Cross the street at a designated crosswalk or intersection. Avoid crossing in the middle of the block.

2. Be careful at intersections, where drivers may fail to yield the right-ofway to pedestrians while turning onto another street.

3. Increase your visibility at night by carrying a flashlight and wear light colored or reflective clothing.

4. It is safest to walk on a sidewalk, but if you must walk in the street, walk facing traffic.

5. Drivers are more distracted than ever, so try to make eye contact with drivers before you step into the road.

6. Avoid using headphones or anything that may limit your ability to hear. Always remember to drive safe.
