Legislator Operates On Legislator

PHOENIX — An Arizona lawmaker who needed emergency surgery got a shock when her surgeon turned out to be a fellow legislator.

State Rep. Lela Alston says she was visiting Tucson last month when she came down with a sudden case of appendicitis.

She was completely taken by surprise when fellow Democrat and trauma surgeon, Rep. Randy Friese, walked into her hospital room.

Friese happened to be pulling a shift Oct. 28.

Friese says he was also shocked to see Alston since she lives in Phoenix.

Alston says she is taking it easy at home and expects to be fully recovered by the time the legislative session starts in January.

Alston says she doesn’t want to ruin Friese’s good work.
