Helpers in Yuma make area great

Thankful for community that rallies in support of each other

- MARGARET HOPPER

On this day, America pauses to give thanks. We’re thankful for our families, our friends, our homes, our pets, our health and another day of life in this big, beautiful world.

In many ways, this year has felt like a rough one. There have been too many tragedies, compounded by an unfortunate amount of polarizing politics and constant spectacles and debacles playing out on the national level.

And if we listen to the static, one might think America has become frozen by opposing opinions.

But the reality is, from neighbor to neighbor, the story is much different — especially in Yuma. When there is a need, people look to the helpers. In Yuma, those helpers are plentiful.

We are blessed to live in a community where neighbors care for each other. When someone issues a call for help, Yumans step forward and help that someone however possible, easing their burden.

When an agency expresses a need, Yumans come forward in droves, whether its raising funds for organizations like Amberly’s Place, or donating food to Crossroads Mission or the Yuma Community Food Bank, or any one of the other countless organizations that we have here.

The help comes from neighbors, from other service organizations and from local businesses, which are eager to extend a helping hand, whether the need is food, money, clothing, moral support or some combination of all of the above.

Yuma cares, and Yuma pulls together to help one another — one can of food, one dollar of financial need, one hour of volunteer work at a time. It all adds up.

That’s a blessing worth celebrating every day, but especially today, on Thanksgiving. To each of the helpers in Yuma both big and small, as you sit down to the table today for that big holiday feast, when you give thanks for your blessings, know that we are thankful for you, and all that you contribute to our community.

Happy Thanksgiving, readers!

DO YOU AGREE WITH THIS OR NOT?

Found one of the best coffee shops ever here in Yuma. I had no idea it was here. It’s called North End Coffee House downtown here at 202 S. 1st Ave, behind City Hall.

Oh my gosh the workers are so friendly. It’s like going back in time when coffee shops actually treated their customers great.

If you have not been here yet, next time you’re down this way drop in.

I’m sure you will agree that this is the best coffee house in Yuma.

Being here brings back memories of the good old days.
