Pen-pricks

- BY ARGUS HAMILTON JUNE MANHERZ ANN GUTRIDGE

• President Trump responded to the public outcry of wildlife advocates Friday and reversed his previous executive order that would allow the U.S. importation of elephant tusks from Africa. He decided to spare the elephants. It proves once and for all that President Trump is no Teddy Roosevelt.

• Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore said he’ll sue the Washington Post for quoting women who said he tried to date them as middle teens. He likes his chances of winning the election. A poll says only 16 percent of Americans support his candidacy, and Roy considers 16 percent legal.

• North Korea’s dictator Kim Jong-Un went wild Sunday threatening to rain hail and fire on the United States and calling out President Trump as an old lunatic war-monger. The North Korean dictator may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot, but don’t let that fool you. He really IS an idiot.

• Senator Al Franken apologized after a woman released a photo of him groping her breasts as she slept on their flight when they worked a USO show when he was a comic. These scandals never stop. Who knew that Michael Jackson would turn out to be the least creepy guy in show business?

I am writing a big thank you to the Yuma Rehab Hospital for the care I received recently. The service and love they spread was just outstanding. The nurses and therapists as well as the people in the cafeteria were all so great. They could not do enough for you. They always checked to see if there was anything that I wanted or needed and never asked for anything in return. I regret that I cannot recall all of them by name but the faces and smiles are still with me. I also want to extend my thanks to my family including my granddaughter who gave me support and love. Last, I wish to thank my close friend and neighbor who made things easier for my family. I was recovering from brain surgery so all this care meant a lot to me. A big thank you to Barrows Institute and St. Joseph’s Hospital and last but not least to YRMC and the helicopter ride to Phoenix.

Sincerely,

On Nov. 5th, Freedom Baptist Church held a special service for veterans and their families. Afterward, we offered a free tri-tip lunch and raffled gift cards to every veteran in attendance. For the children, we had face painting, a bounce house, and a drum train. We also had root beer floats, kettle corn, and cotton candy for dessert. That day was a huge success, and we were honored to have had to opportunity to thank those whose courageous service has preserved

To the city or county that fixed the deep ruts in the road on 24th Street just east of the Fun Factory, THANK YOU. I was going to write a letter letting you know of this problem that was a hazard to traffic. Now instead, I can thank you for repairing this tire-destroying road I travel often. Keep up the good road repair work! Heaven knows there are many roads in Yuma that need attention.
