Mother and child injured in 3-car collision
A mother and her child were injured in a three-car collision early Thursday evening at County 14th and Somerton Avenue, the Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department reported.
According to information provided by Capt. Javier Hernandez, firefighters responded to the location at 5:01 p.m. in response to a report of a motor vehicle collision.
When firefighters arrived on scene they found a total of three moderately damaged vehicles, including a Toyota Yaris, which had two occupants, a 39-year-old female and a 5-year-old child.
The other two vehicles were a Nissan sedan, which had two occupants, and a Chevrolet Avalanche that had one occupant.
A witness stated that the Nissan sedan failed to stop at the intersection while traveling west on County 14th and collided with the Toyota Yaris that was traveling on Somerton Avenue.
That collision caused the Toyota to crash into the Avalanche.
The female, who had a possible broken wrist, and child in the Toyota Yaris were both transported with non-life threatening injuries by Somerton Cocopah ambulance to Yuma Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
The three other occupants involved in the accident refused medical attention at the scene.
Somerton and Cocopah Police Departments assisted with traffic control and the Yuma County Sheriff Office is investigating the accident.
