Pen-pricks

• The Hollywood Christmas Parade was attended by thousands of people on Hollywood Boulevard last week. The city has its own theology. Living in L.A., I’ve often wondered if Joseph and Mary had a bumper sticker on the back of their donkey that read My Son is God at Nazareth Elementary School.

• Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson was hit by sex misconduct charges amid an NFL season already racked by fan outrage over anthem kneeling. The half-empty stadiums say it all. 2017 will go down in history as the year Twitter replaced pro football as America’s substitute for war.

Thanks from the 31st Annual Foothills Christmas Parade of Lights!

The first folks I want to thank are the parade participants. They put a lot of time and effort into decorating their “rig.” They also spent some COLD hours driving the parade. Sunday night was a CHILLER!!

The second people I want to thank are all the folks that come out to see the parade. They also spent time really “Chillin!” But, they do have an advantage getting warm quick.

And now, to all of the Worker Bees that make this parade happen. Our new Co-Coordinators, Don and Cathy VanHauwaert (they say, “pronounced just the way it is spelled). We canvassed three different areas because of route changes and got great results.

I have to be a bit of a Grinch for a short paragraph. Being a retired firefighter, I have seen some of the injuries that can be sustained when someone is hit by a moving vehicle. No matter how many times we tell the drivers and passengers not to throw candy, inevitably one or two people throw candy. I know this has occurred at the parades in Yuma also, so one of the answers, don’t let your kids retrieve candy thrown until after the parade passes, and we will continue to tell them not to throw it!

The Sheriff’s Office personnel were, as always, great! Couldn’t do it without them. All of our supporters that give the parade drivers (and riders) free pie and coffee when you

The 2017 Foothills Parade of Lights is now history. We think it was a smash hit! This initiative would not be possible without these people:

• Rudy and Janice Wallace who stepped up to take the reins in tirelessly organizing the parade and generously expending of personal resources to make the parade a huge success. You guys are AWESOME!

• Yuma County Sheriff’s Department who graciously donated their time to keep us safe. We couldn’t do this without you.

• The various Foothills merchants who offered discounts to participants, printed maps, provided portable lavatories at the staging site and a host of others.

• Rachel Twoguns and the Yuma Sun for the great newspaper coverage.

• The participants who spent time, money and personal resources to decorate their vehicles and bring joy to their neighbors. You guys ROCK!

• All the folks who hosted parties and who turned out to watch our parade and the RV Parks for allowing us entry. Without you there would be no parade. We thank you all.

Merry Christmas!
