Neumann leads YC girls hoops past North Pointe Prep

The Yuma Catholic girls basketball team picked up its first region victory by beating North Pointe Prep 50-42 in Phoenix on Friday.

Sydney Neumann scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Sabrina Borland (14 points, 10 rebounds) posted a double-double. Taylor Walton added 10 points.

The Shamrocks improved to 6-1 AIA with the win.

Cibola girls soccer beats North, 3-1

The Raiders did all of their scoring in the second half in their 3-1 win against North, with Aileen Zavala getting it started with a free kick goal from 35 yards out to give Cibola a 1-0 lead. Lizbeth Rubio followed with a goal within a minute of Zavala’s, and then after North pulled back within one, Rubio scored her second goal of the night off an assist from Brenda Garcia with about 15 minutes to go.

Cibola improved to 5-1-2 with the victory.

Kofa girls soccer falls to Xavier Prep

The Kings had a five-game win streak snapped with the 4-1 loss to Xavier Prep on Friday, but Michelle Fuentes did extend her personal streak to six straight games with a goal.

Tolleson boys basketball takes down Kofa

Jeremy Smith scored a teamhigh 22 points for the Kings while Zac Miller added 18.

Antelope goes 3-2 at Joseph City

The Antelope wrestling team went 3-2 in duals on the first day of the Joseph City Invitation­al on Friday. The Rams beat Holbrook (48-3), Joseph City (59-24) and Valley Christian while losing to Lee Williams (54-27) and Northwest Christian (57-18). Brandon Jaime posted a 5-0 record with four pins, and Dylan Clatone was 4-1 and also had four pins.
