Phoenix taxi driver dies after crash; Other driver arrested
PHOENIX — Police in Phoenix say a taxi driver who was injured in a crash last week has died and the driver of the other vehicle has been arrested.
They say 42-year-old Santiago Maya died from his injuries in a hospital.
Police say 26-year-old Blaze Franklin was released from a hospital last Thursday and then jailed on suspicion of several counts of aggravated assault for allegedly driving impaired.
They say Franklin also was booked on warrants related to a prior driving while impaired incident.
Investigators are working with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office to have the aggravated assault charges modified due to Maya’s death. Police say Maya’s passenger in the taxi suffered non-life threatening injuries in the latenight crash on Feb. 6.
