Featured artist at Yuma Arts Symposium: Dustin Farnsworth
Editor’s note: This is one in a series of stories profiling 10 artists whose work will appear in the 39th annual Yuma Art Symposium, scheduled Feb. 22-24.
Dustin Farnsworth graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design in 2010. He has participated in more 40 exhibitions nationally, two solo exhibitions, and his work will appear in forthcoming solo exhibitions at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, N.C., and The Huntsville Museum of Art in Huntsville, Ala.
He has gained national recognition for complex and intricate sculptures the exhibit mastery of craft, material and storytelling. From references to historical ceremonial headdresses to post-industrial architecture and detritus, each sculpture embodies the trademarks of his practice.
By confronting complex issues that normally remain mute, he engages in visual rhetoric representing a generation in need of protection as well as avenues of empowerment and change.
This year’s symposium brings together nationally and internationally known artists working in metals, clay, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture and photography.
